Energy and Utility Leaders Collaborate to Drive Open Energy and Water Utility Data-Access & Data-Sharing Standards
The Green Button Alliance (GBA), which fosters the development, compliance, and adoption of the industry’s Green Button energy and water utility data-access and -sharing protocol, today announced the appointment of Josh Keeling as Chairman of its Board of Directors. Keeling, who previously served as vice chairman of the GBA’s board, succeeds the GBA’s founding chairman, Syed Mir, who recently retired from London Hydro after serving as vice president, Corporate Services & CIO for over 15 years and serving as chairman of the GBA for over 10 years.
During Mir’s tenure as chairman of the GBA, he led the Alliance in driving utility adoption of open Green Button data-sharing standards across North America that enable utility customers and third parties with digital access to their utility data and opened markets for a wide array of new energy data-driven platforms, services, & solutions. Today, Green Button solutions are available in nearly all 50 states; in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Nova Scotia, and in the Republic of Korea. Additionally, several U.S. states and two Canadian provinces have Green Button data access regulations in place or have legislation in progress. The GBA’s board thanks Mir for his vision and strategic leadership, and recently presented him with a Lifetime Membership in the GBA.
As GBA’s new Chairman, Josh Keeling, Chief Commercial Officer of UtilityAPI—a long-time and pivotal GBA Member Company—brings extensive industry experience in advancing open Green Button utility data standards and Certified Green Button utility platforms. Keeling will leverage his deep expertise in growing the market for utility data integration platforms that prioritize customer authorization, privacy, & scalability; and that utilize standardized, interoperable data to accelerate DER adoption in support of a two-way grid.
“GBA’s board and Member Companies welcome Josh Keeling as GBA’s new Chairman,” said Jeremy J. Roberts, Executive Director, Green Button Alliance. “Josh’s proven leadership and strategic, forward-thinking approach will be invaluable for driving the next phase of open Green Button standards and widespread access to new energy, water, and resource-reporting solutions; smarter resource management; and enhanced grid resilience for all stakeholders.”
