Green Button CMD Standard-compliance Key to Assuring Seamless Access and Sharing of Energy Data While Protecting Customer Privacy

ATLANTA, January 29, 2019 – The Green Button Alliance (GBA), which fosters the development, compliance, and adoption of the industry-standard Green Button energy and water data-access and –sharing protocol, today announced GBA member UtilityAPI’s new EE/DER Engagement Platform has been tested and certified as compliant to the industry’s Green Button Connect My Data (CMD) and Download My Data (DMD) data-access methods. UtilityAPI’s utility data exchange implementation is the first U.S.-based offering to be certified as Green Button CMD-compliant through the Green Button Alliance’s recently launched Green Button Testing and Verification Program. As utilities look to offer secure, digital access to customer usage data, Green Button CMD-compliant solutions provide seamless, secure data-access and –sharing, while ensuring customer data privacy.

“As a leading provider of utility data-access and sharing solutions, delivering technology that leverages the full functionality of the industry-standard Green Button protocol—while assuring our customers’ data security and privacy—is a priority for us,” said Daniel Roesler, Founder and CEO, UtilityAPI. “Our data exchange platform has been tested and certified as Green Button CMD- and DMD-compliant for Green Button electricity, natural gas, and water usage with billing data and we’re now offering a Green Button Certified platform to utilities that provides highly accurate data and a compatible ecosystem.”

“As utilities advance their digital strategies to meet customer needs for energy data and increasing regulatory requirements for secure data access and customer privacy, forward-thinking companies continue to look to standards-based, Green Button data-enabled platforms and services,” said Syed Mir, Chairman, Green Button Alliance. “Utilities and vendors providing data exchange platforms can utilize the GBA’s Testing and Verification program to ensure they are offering standards-based, dependable, turn-key solutions that effectively address the digital data needs of energy and water customers while meeting regulatory requirements.”
